Award-winning Performers Come to Westchester Enroute to Carnegie Hall!
Scarsdale, NY -- The Greenville Community Church announces the fifth event in its 2010-2011 Recital Series, innovative performances of great music held in the sanctuary of Greenville Community Church, located at 270 Ardsley Road, Scarsdale, New York. Dr. Corazon Bisda, Music Director of the church, is Artistic Director of the Recital Series. On Sunday, January 9, 2011, at 4:30 p.m., the series will present the University of Johannesburg Choir, an award-winning ensemble under the direction of Renette Bouwer, which will then be on tour in the United States, performing also at Carnegie Hall, New York City, in a performance with Distinguished Concerts International New York.
UJC’s performance in the Greenville Community Church Recital Series will feature a capella Western music, drawn from sacred, secular and folk repertory, as well as traditional African music. UJC has received awards from international choir competitions, and a special jury prize for multi-cultural achievement. UJC has performed widely on the international scene, in South Africa, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark. Members of the choir are a multi-cultural group of auditioned UJ students. UJC’s performance at Greenville Community Church will provide a rare opportunity for Westchester residents of all ages to hear this remarkable ensemble and to experience exceptional performances of Western and traditional African music -- a truly multicultural music event to start the New Year.
There is no required charge for admission; however, a good will offering in support of the church's Recital Series would be gratefully accepted.
