Rye, NY, July 11, 2010 -- Community Synagogue of Rye has elected Alan Shepard as its new President. He formerly served two years as the Executive Vice President of the Board of Trustees and two years as the Treasurer. He has been a member of Community Synagogue since 1996 and also served as President of the Men’s Club for four years and as a member of the Early Childhood Center Council and other committees.
Alan Shepard was born in Manhattan and earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from City College and MS in Industrial Engineering from Polytechnic University. He retired in 2006 after a long career at IBM, where he had various positions in sales and marketing.
As he said, upon his election, “I must acknowledge my predecessor, Susan Rudolph. Working with her for two years has been a sheer delight. Her innovative leadership has resulted in major new initiatives that I hope to carry forward”. He also stated that “he will dedicate his presidency to sustaining the future of the congregation by reminding congregants of the importance of instilling Judaic values and heritage into the minds and hearts of the next generation”.
Alan and his wife Jean live in Rye Brook and have two sons, Ben, a graduate of the University of Rochester, who lives in the Washington, DC area, and David, who will be a Junior at Union College this fall. As empty nesters, they plan on more travel, which they both love
