PORT CHESTER, NY, July 15, 2010 -- Westchester County Legislator Martin Rogowsky (D-Harrison) today announce that the Village of Port Chester has received a $37,500 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the federal government for the Don Bosco Community Center. The grant, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. The grant will be used to create a summer teen night program for eight weeks.
The Don Bosco Community Center, established in 1928, has served the Port Chester community through recreational activities, neighborhood/community events, and by providing multi-lingual youth/adult social and supportive services. The summer teen program will allow 275 low and moderate income at-risk youth to engage in healthy summer activities, such as computer education, dance, arts & crafts, game room and recreational activities and leadership training.
āIām glad that I was able to help Port Chester and the Don Bosco Community Center in obtaining this grant. Programs such as these do a tremendous job in giving kids an opportunity to participate in organized activities with appropriate supervision,ā said Rogowsky. The annual CDBG funding plan is now in its thirty-fourth year and is a joint partnership involving the federal government, the County and the local villages, towns and city government
