YONKERS, NY, July 12, 2010 -- “TheYonkers Public Schools and the taxpayers of Yonkers have been hit with a devastating blow due to the inaction of the New York State Senate, “ asserts New York Statesenatorial candidate Liam McLaughlin. “The latest vetoes by Governor Paterson were executed because the Senate failed to pass the necessary funding allocation bills required for spending. Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins and her colleagues were at home while the Governor delivered the veto messages to an absentee Senate. With our city and state on the brink of financial ruin, where is Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins? The lack of attention to this latest veto is just another example of absent representation and lukewarm advocacy from our State Senator,” continued Mr McLaughlin.
"The budget issue is devastating to the residences and especially the children of Yonkers. " said Mr McLaughlin. "The fact that our elected officials in Albany have been AWOL while Yonkers residences are facing Draconian cuts that will affect our way of life is a slap in the face to the people of Yonkers. Because of the dire situation we find ourselves in, Senator Stewart-Cousins should be calling on Majority Leader John Sampson and demanding that the Senate immediately reconvene to rectify the havoc that has been implemented on the Yonkers School District and other districts across the state," continued Mr McLaughlin.
“During these tough fiscal times, we need strong active leadership representing the 35th District in Albany, not leadership that sits on her hands and watches as our municipalities are on the verge of collapse. This latest incident shows the inaction we have when it comes to our representatives in Albany and why we need new accountable leadership representing the people of Yonkers and the 35th Senatorial district come this November,” concluded Mr. McLaughlin.
