White Plains, NY, August 19, 2010 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that four individuals were arraigned today on a one count indictment charging them with a gang assault that occurred on Nelson Avenue in the City of Peekskill on May 15th, 2010.
Jarron Sligh (DOB 4/22/87) of 431 N. Division Street, Peekskill, New York, Keith Walker (DOB 10/14/91) of 110 Nelson Avenue, Peekskill, New York, Ronnie Juett (DOB 8/20/86) 807 Main Street, Peekskill, New York, Jamar (Brickhouse) Walker (DOB 8/14/90) of 835 John Street, Peekskill, New York, were charged with:
• one count of Gang Assault in the First Degree, a class “B” Felony.
On May 15, 2010 at 1:40 am, all four defendants were “hanging out” on the corner of Nelson Avenue and John Street in Peekskill with several other males when one of the defendants observed the victim walking up Nelson Avenue on the opposite side of the street.
He approached victim and began to harass him on sidewalk in front of 205 Nelson Avenue blocking the victim’s path with a bicycle and ultimately striking the victim in the face. The victim then walked into the courtyard of 205 Nelson Avenue while holding his face and sat on a set of stairs leading into one side of the building.
A few minutes later the defendants allege that a bottle was thrown at them by the victim at which point all four defendants charged the victim. Hearing the defendants coming, the victim attempted to escape in to the building vestibule where he became trapped. All four defendants ran into vestibule and proceeded to stomp and punch victim. The defendants then fled the scene.
A resident returning to the building found the victim and called 911.
The victim was hospitalized for a month with a fractured skull, brain damage, a broken cheek, a broken eye socket, a broken jaw, broken ribs and a ruptured spleen.
Bail was set at $250,000 cash or bond for Sligh and Juett. Keith Walker and Jamar Walker both reserved on their bail applications.
Their next court appearance will be on August 31st, 2010.
They face a maximum sentence of five to twenty five years in state prison.
Assistant District Attorney Heide Mason, of the Special Prosecutions Division, is prosecuting the case.
