Briarcliff Manor, NY, September 19, 2010 -- “It’s not often that we get a thank you like this,” said Bob O’Hanlon, Second Assistant Chief of the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department.
O’Hanlon and other volunteer members of the Department were enjoying a pasta and meatball dinner at Orfino’s Restaurant, just a few short blocks from the Fire Headquarters and a few short weeks from a kitchen fire at Orfino's restaurant last week.
Thanks to the quick action of the Briarcliff Manor Police and Fire Departments, Orfino’s kitchen fire was quickly contained, damage minimized and the Restaurant was able to reopen a month later.
It was Monday afternoon August 2nd , just after the 3PM closing, that the Merchant next door to Orfino’s saw smoke and called the Briarcliff Police and Fire. Quick response by both departments discovered a smoldering grill fire which spread to an interior wall. The wall had to be removed and there was smoke damage but the care and expertise of the Fire Department kept the fire from spreading without destroying the entire kitchen.
Linda and Michael Orfino, the restaurant’s owners, decided to thank the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department with a complimentary dinner complete with salad, non-alcoholic beverages, pasta selections and meatballs. A good time was had by all.
Orfino’s Restaurant is located at 1201 Pleasantville Road in Briarcliff. Open 11AM – 3PM Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday – Friday 11AM – 10PM. Saturdays 8AM -10PM. Closed Sunday.
The Briarcliff Manor Fire Department consists of 130 – 140 active and inactive volunteers under the direction of Chief Douglas Cacciola.
