Dobbs Ferry, NY, September 19, 2010 -- On Thursday evening, September 30th, the Greenburgh Hebrew Center community will join in the world-wide celebration known as Simchat Torah. What makes GHC different from the rest?
The evening begins at 6:30 pm with a celebration designed especially for families with young children. Then everyone is invited to join the congregation in the main sanctuary at 7:00 pm where our new, spirited Religious School Director Irit Kornblit will be leading the congregation in “ruach” and song. Rabbi Barry Kenter invites you to “Wrap Yourself in Torah”. We unroll the entire scroll – yes, all five books of Moses – so students can “wrap” themselves in the Torah. Everyone will have the opportunity to march, sing, and dance with the Torahs.
On Friday morning October 1st, Simchat Torah continues with dancing and reading from the Torah, and with the honoring of two extraordinary congregants, Sherry Padva as Kallat B’reishit and Herb Goldberg as Hattan Torah, for their many contributions to the synagogue and the Jewish community. Services begin at 9:30 am followed by a delicious, festive luncheon in honor of Sherry and Herb. Please make reservations for the luncheon by contacting the synagogue office at 693-4260.
The Greenburgh Hebrew Center is a conservative synagogue and has daily services that are spirited, egalitarian and participatory. The membership is a friendly and welcoming community.
