Carmel, NY, September 10, 2010 -- Rep. John Hall (D-NY19) released the following statement remembering the ninth anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
“Across the nation this Saturday, we will pause to remember the September 11, 2001 attack launched against us by a ruthless enemy. It was a day in which thousands of Americans, at work or en route to destinations they never reached, lost their lives. Our world was forever changed on this day, as evil and violence quickly gave way to the best that humanity can offer in times of crisis. On 9/11, terrorists around the world learned that though they could hijack airplanes, destroy the World Trade Towers and damage the Pentagon, they would never, ever be able to vanquish the American spirit.
"It is impossible to talk about 9/11 without remembering the brave men and women who have been fighting overseas to protect our freedoms and the first responders who safeguard us here every day. Today, let us remember to thank the selfless Americans--members of our armed services, police officers, firefighters, EMTs--whose sacrifice and commitment to our great country and its inhabitants allow us to pursue our dreams and goals each and every day.
"Here in the Hudson Valley the pain of 9/11 remains real and vivid. Many of my constituents lost loved ones in the attacks; many spent the following months combing through the rubble for remains. To honor all of those touched by this horrible attack, let us stand together, with strength and commitment, as we ensure a safe and prosperous future for generations to come.”
