Scarsdale, NY - Artist and art historian, Marcy B. Freedman will examine Love and War in Western Art at an offering by the Scarsdale Adult School Wednesday October 20th at the Scarsdale Public Library from 1:00 - 2:30 pm.
During the class, Freedman will visit a vast array of artwork, from antiquity to the present -- all of which deal with the timeless subjects of love and war. Sculptures, paintings, prints, and drawings from different eras will be compared, revealing the diversity of approaches that have been used by western artists in their representations of sex and violence -- from the idealism of the classical masters to the realism and expressionism of modern and contemporary artists.
Masterpieces by Botticelli, Titian, Rubens, Goya, Delacroix, and Picasso will be considered, along with the challenging works by several contemporary artists.
The cost is $35.
