New York, NY, October 3, 2010 -- "An investigative report released today reveals that Carl Paladinohas pocketed $3 million in taxbreaks by promising to jump start economic revival in the Buffaloarea, but in reality he has only created a handful of jobs. Moreover, according to the report, while he claims to have made investments through his holdings, Paladino has often just sold himself vacant lots he already owned. To this day, these lots remain undeveloped. This report makes it clear that Paladino has abused State programs to gain millions in government tax breaks while not delivering any of the jobs or real economic development he promised.
"As Chair of the Senate Committee on Tax and Budget Reform, I can testify that the kind of insider deals Mr. Paladino negotiated through the failed Empire Zone program is exactly the corruption we have been working to clean up. Mr. Paladino should return the tax breaks he's unjustly received and apologize for taking all that money and failing to create the kind of economic return those tax breaks were intended to generate.
"This report shows in no uncertain terms that Carl Paladino is all too willing to take advantage of New Yorkers for his own benefit. New Yorkers need a Governor who will clean up Albany -- and I can guarantee that’s not a man who's made his fortune by abusing State programs."
